About This Series
Finance 101

Just like our culture, the Bible places great importance in money. In fact, it teaches us that the way we view, gain and use money has even far greater impact and consequences than what people generally believe -whether for good or for bad, both for this life and the next. So don't just work for your money, make your money work for you!

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

We desire everyone to act with integrity in their financial dealings with us, yet on the other hand, we don’t always deal honestly with other people. We need more than merely negative consequences or moral convictions to overcome dishonesty. In this message, we learn how Christianity provides us the strength we need to be honest.

1. When have you chosen to uphold a financial commitment even when it was painful or risky? Are there financial commitments you are failing to uphold?

2. Before God’s eyes, have you been dishonest in any way with your financial dealings? If you know that you might suffer the same fate as Ananias and Sapphira, what will you do?

3. What are some actions that would be good for you to take (beyond merely right and wrong) so as to preserve your reputation in financial matters?

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

Most of us want a lot more money than we have because we believe that will bring us greater security. This is a myth. Not only will trusting in money fail to provide true security and distort our perspective, there is in fact a better way to meet our need for security, whether we have much or little money. Let’s learn from the Bible how that can be possible.

1. Why is it foolish to amass worldly wealth? What are you doing to invest in heavenly wealth?

2. What is the relationship between greed and godliness? Can you recall a time when monetary concerns messed up your spiritual perception?

3. Why is loving God and money mutually exclusive? What gives us courage to trust God rather than money?

Generosity is universally considered a virtue, and it is by no means practised only by Christians. However, the very nature of the Christian faith takes generosity to a different level, because it empowers us to delight not in what we keep, but in what we give away. In this message, we learn how we can get the most joy in the way we manage wealth.

1. What is the relationship between generous giving and trusting in God? How can you ensure that the way you give continues to help you to demonstrate and build faith?

2. As people grow in Christ, they are empowered to give beyond their natural abilities and inclination. Share about your spiritual journey in growing in the grace of giving since you started as a believer.

3. How have you been encouraged by the liberal giving of other believers? Now encourage your fellow CG members by sharing about how you hope to contribute to the Give to the King offering this year.

The limitation with most financial advice is that it comes from people who have an interest in making money from us, which means they are never truly independent. That is why we should heed the timeless principles taught by Jesus, because he only desires to bless us rather than get something out of us. In this message, we will learn from a fascinating parable he taught about money.

1. How are you investing your money for this lifetime? How are you investing it for eternity?

2. Whom are some people you will thank when you get to heaven? Who do are some people who will be there to joyfully receive you?

3. To what extent has the gospel shaped your financial perspective and practices? What else should change to reflect the unmerited favour God has extended to you through Christ?
